Neave Masonry can use retaining walls to provide clients with more usable square footage on their property while also enhancing the visual interest of their outdoor space. Retaining walls accomplish a number of different tasks, and with Neave Masonry they can be designed and built to properly complement the existing aesthetic of your property. The main intention of a retaining wall is to restrain soil to unnatural slopes so that terrain can be constrained to a higher level while limiting the effect it has on anything below it.

One of the most popular materials used for retaining walls are stones that provide the classic look of “century old stone work” used on old country farms. Advances in technology and materials allow clients to select from a variety of different stones, concretes, bricks and other materials when constructing a new retaining wall. The choice is up to you, and we’ll ensure that your aesthetic needs are met while providing excellent craftsmanship.

Landscapes that have severely sloping yards can be modified to include retaining walls that allow you to utilize the newly exposed space. Neave Masonry can design and build landings or patios using the newly exposed terrain or we can enlist the help of our sister divisions to provide you a brand new pool from Neave Pools or an athletic court courtesy of Neave Sports.

When naturally occurring slopes and landscape alterations are involved, drainage can be an issue. This is an important element that we stay very aware of during the design and building phase. In some instances, retaining walls can be used as a drainage device.

Excavation is an important element when building a retaining wall and Neave Masonry carries the proper equipment, tools and craftsman for the job. Our expert designers will outline a blueprint that will be explained to you and the job will performed with safety in mind. At Neave Masonry, we don’t overlook any detail.

There are two main types of retaining walls that you can choose from, and advances in technology and application allow you to choose from alternative retaining techniques as well. Any type of retaining wall can be further anchored using cables or other devices to help stabilize the load.

Gravity Retaining Wall – Using either mortarless stone or segmented concrete, these retaining walls utilize pressure generated by the retained earth behind it. Stones are dry stacked, providing a reasonable amount of flexibility that allows them to perform well during all four seasons. In instances where large gravity retaining wall is built, a trench may be excavated to offer an anchoring point for the structure.

Cantilevered Retaining Wall These retaining walls use an internal system of steel-reinforced concrete to add greater resistance forces. These are typically selected for larger jobs and are also a cost effective measure since they use less materials than other types.

Alternative retaining techniques are also available where appropriate. They can be used alongside traditional retaining walls for added stability and safety depending on the surrounding environment. These techniques include soft nailing, soil strengthening, mesh wire and mechanical stabilization. All of these techniques include inserting different mechanisms in to the retained soil so that it maintains its proper position. Your Neave Masonry specialist can guide you through all the different techniques to ensure that you select the right option for your property.

With retaining walls you don’t have to be a victim of circumstance any longer. We will build you a retaining wall that safely improves the usable square footage available to you while also adding to the value and visual interest of your home.
