Westchester Landscape DesignIs it just us, or was Punxsutawney Phil a little confused on Groundhog Day? Mr. “Six More Weeks of Winter” must have been hibernating during all that winter we weren’t having here in the Hudson Valley.

Not that it matters: We’ve been too busy enjoying the glorious weather to worry about some groundhog making a lousy prediction. But now with spring officially sprung, it’s time to start making sure you’re prepared to show off your lovely spring landscape when the for-real warm-up happens.

Here are a few ideas to get your lawn and landscape ready for spring.

Assess Your Supplies

Now is the best time to assess your supplies for the season. Make sure your hoses are hole-less and all your other landscape tools are in good working order.

This can also be a great time to stock up on garden goods and hand tools that may be for sale at the show, and buy seeds if you won’t be working with plants from a garden center or (hint, hint) landscaping company.

Check Your Systems

If you have an irrigation system installed, the winter thaw can be a great time to inspect all the sprinkler heads, pipe, and other components and ensure they’re ready to go to work once the weather warms up.

Understand Your Landscape

If you’re going to be doing your first-ever landscaping project, you might see this “limbo time” as an opportunity to map out the sun and shade your lawn gets at various points during the day. That will help you determine the best spots to place plants when the weather’s warm enough.

This is also a great time to get a soil test done and make sure everything is optimal in the world under your feet.

Hire Someone To Help

Of course, we here at Neave Group Outdoor Solutions think the best way to finish getting ready for spring is to give us a call. Everyone’s busy these days, and we like to stay busy helping busy people keep their lawns and landscaping looking gorgeous year round.

We offer a full range of landscape design and build services, and we can follow up with seasonal lawn care, too, including weekly maintenance, lawn treatments, spraying and fertilization, pruning, and care of your annual or perennial gardens — even if you found the time to plant them yourselves.

Just want help with a little spring cleaning — or a lot — before the season gets into full swing? We can help with that, too. Give us a call, and we’ll get started.

If you’re in the Hudson Valley at (845) 463-0592. If you’re in Westchester County, call (914) 271-7996; from Connecticut, dial (203) 212-4800. Or, fill out our simple web form, and we’ll contact you about setting up your free consultation.
