Time to float around your sparkling swimming pool on your cool new raft with the built-in drink holder. Time to perfect that backflip. (This is the year the neighbors will be impressed.) Time to glide through that clear water, otter-like and blissful.
All this bliss doesn’t happen without some effort, though. There are some crucial tasks to ensure your pool water stays clear and your pool is always safe for you, your family and friends.
Go ahead and spread out your towel. But don’t forget to tackle these five crucial tasks for swimming pool management!
Balance The Water Chemistry
Bacteria thrive in water. A pool filled with improperly treated water is the perfect place for disease-carrying microorganisms to move from one person to another. (Makes you itchy, just thinking about it.)
The wrong balance of pool chemicals can do damage, eating away at your liner, the heater, the plumbing.
Unbalanced chemicals will make your eyes burn and your skin feel dry and itchy. The right balance, on the other hand, will extend the life of your pool and its assorted components.
It’s kind of a tricky task. It helps if you love math and chemistry. Don’t ignore it. (Don’t love math and chemistry? We do. Call Neave to help with your
Check The Water Heater
Unless you want your pool to double as a drink cooler, you need to periodically check on the pool water heater. It needs to be cleaned and checked for leaks.
If your heater shuts off before warming the water to the desired temperature, it could be the result of a dirty filter or an improperly set timer.
An occasional once-over will keep it firing nicely and keep your pool at the perfect temperature for skin, not beer.
Keep The Pool Water Filter Clean
Try shouting, “Who wants to come over for a dip in my murky green swamp?” and see what happens.
A clean pool filter not only keeps the water clean and sparkling; it also keeps other parts of the pool mechanics working properly.
A clogged swimming pool filter will lower your water pressure, interfere with your heater and generally gunk up the whole scene. Keep it clean!
Take Care of Safety Equipment
Safety should be your top concern as a swimming pool owner.
Are fence gates self-closing and self-latching? Pool alarms working? Ladders installed properly and firmly attached? Is your pump’s anti-entrapment feature functioning properly?
Check all of these carefully and often.
Maintain Your Automatic Cover
Automatic pool covers are great, but it’s important to catch any small problems before they become big problems.
A loose bracket could tear the cover. Are the track screws secure? The track channel free from debris? Check the vinyl for holes and tears. Is the stitching secure?
Small adjustments done in time can prevent big — and costly — problems later.
The Work Involved to Keep Your Pool in Great Shape
Experts say plan on spending at least six to eight hours per week on pool upkeep. (Insert heavy sigh here.)
Or, spend those six to eight hours in the pool, trying out your new flippers, and let a swimming pool contractor like Neave Pools do the upkeep. That’s why we’re here.
Our pool service company offers an array of pool management services for both in-ground and above-ground that will keep your pool in top condition. We offer the best management and maintenance work in the New York and Connecticut area.
Our pool service technicians are certified by the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals and the National Swimming Pool Foundation. They’ve also been trained and certified by top-end manufacturers. They know their stuff.
Regular routine maintenance by a certified pool technician can help extend the life of your pool. A properly managed vinyl liner pool can last 15 years or more before needing a new liner. But in a poorly kept swimming pool, a liner might only last three years, and gunite pools are just as vulnerable.
