You might be surprised to hear that the best time to schedule a spring clean-up for your commercial property’s landscape is during the winter months.

The reason to book your spring landscaping services now is to make sure you get on the schedule for late March or April. It might not be the first thing on your mind now, as you look out and see your property buried in snow.

But trust us — the snow will melt, leaving behind a big, unsightly mess of:

  • dead tree branches
  • leaf-clogged planting beds
  • trash that blew onto your property then got buried in snow

The effects of winter can be ugly and can leave an unsightly mess around your business or retail shop. Likewise, leaving debris from trees, bushes, and other shrubberies can become a breeding ground for pests, prevent healthy grass growth, and effect spring budding.

The Need For Spring Clean-Up Services

Leaf Clean Up Services

You know better than anyone that the appearance of your commercial property matters. Potential customers judge your business by the outside before they see anything else.

And it only takes a minute to make a bad first impression.

Even if your property looked great last fall, winter takes a toll on landscapes. When the snow melts (it will — we promise) it reveals several months’ worth of muck and yuck.

All that debris not only looks bad, but it’s also harmful to your landscape, smothering new growth and fostering disease.

Whisk it all away so your property is tidy, healthy and well-tended.

Spring Commercial Landscape Maintenance Tasks

A few important tasks will rid your commercial property of winter’s wrath and set it up nicely for the spring green-up.

Remove Debris

Best Way to Remove Leaves from Your YardYou’ll be surprised at what’s hiding beneath all that snow. Fallen branches. Trash. Moldy leaves. Soggy mulch. It all has to go.

Rake up any lingering leaves, sticks and pine needles. Winter’s strong winds and heavy snow often bring down tree limbs that need to be removed.

Neglect this chore, and your property looks ugly and neglected. And your newly emerging turf grass will be smothered by the debris.

Prune Away Dead Branches

Once new spring leaves start to sprout, it’s obvious some tree and shrub branches didn’t survive the winter. Pruning dead branches prep the tree or shrub for healthy new growth.

Clean Up Planting Beds

Rake out fallen leaves and dead foliage and pull up the slimy old annuals from last summer. Cut back perennials that escaped attention last fall.

Leave this mess, and it will smother new plants and foster disease.

Remove Old Mulch

Once the threat of frost has passed, remove existing mulch to make way for a new layer after spring planting, including extra mulch that was applied to protect plants for the winter.

Leaving excess organic material around the bases of plants in spring can cause root rot, mold, and insect damage.

If any plants have been pushed out of the ground or heaved due to freezing and thawing in the soil, tuck them back in.

Lightly Rake Out Snow Mold

When snow lingers on the lawn for too long, especially large piles that remain for months, grass can become infected with mold.

Lightly rake the area to remove the infected grass and promote air circulation and light to penetrate to encourage new growth.
