Low-voltage LED landscape lighting uses a fraction of electricity.

Instead of flipping the switch, today’s landscape lighting blog post is all about making the switch. The switch to LED landscape lighting, that is.

At Neave Lighting, we encounter home and business owners all the time who are generally interested in either installing new landscape lighting from the ground up or bringing an existing outdoor lighting system into the 21st century.

Whatever your project calls for, Neave Lighting always employs the best energy-efficient LED outdoor lighting available in the industry.

You might be thinking: What’s so great about LEDs? Plenty. And here’s a closer look at the many advantages of LED landscape lighting over the use of traditional light bulbs like incandescents or halogens.

What Does LED Mean?

LED is short for Light-Emitting Diode. Unlike standard halogen and incandescent bulbs that heat a filament in order to produce light, LEDs are electronic, emitting light when an electrical current passes through.

While this difference might sound minor, the benefits produced from an LED’s design are significant. Here’s what we mean:

The Benefits of LED Landscape Lighting

LED landscape lighting is up to 80 percent more efficient than traditional lighting.

Money Savings

LED lighting is low voltage, which means it uses considerably less electricity than incandescent or halogen bulbs. If you’re used to paying $100 for your monthly bill using traditional lighting, switching over to LED lighting can cause your bill to dip to $20 a month.

Energy Savings

Now you know LED lights are up to 80 percent more efficient than traditional lighting. To go a step further, it’s worth mentioning that 95 percent of the energy in an LED bulb is converted into light and 5 percent is wasted as heat. This favorable ratio keeps LEDs cool to touch and reduces the risk of fire hazards and burns to your skin. Conversely, fluorescent lights convert 95 of energy to heat and only 5 percent into light. Sounds hot — and not in the good way.

Earth-Friendly

In addition to reducing energy waste, LEDs are considered an eco-wise landscape lighting choice because they are free of toxic elements (like mercury) and don’t require special recycling instructions.

Retrofitting

Did you know there’s an LED replacement for almost every lighting fixture? Whether temporary or long-term, retrofitting your current landscape lighting system with LEDs tends to be an easy money-saving, energy-saving investment for property owners.

Control

LED landscape lighting lasts significantly longer than traditional bulbs.

If you want to have more control over the appearance of your home’s exterior at night, outdoor lighting with LEDs can make that happen. LEDs minimize “light pollution” because it casts what we like to call directional light — so it goes exactly where you want it to.

Durability

LEDs aren’t encapsulated in glass and do not use a filament or neon gas. So what? Well, this actually makes LEDs more durable than traditional lighting. They can stand up to shock, constant vibration and serious fluctuations in temperature.

Maintenance

LEDs last significantly longer than traditional bulbs. Neave Lighting’s LED bulbs have a 7-year warranty (50,000 hour life!) and our transformers have a lifetime warranty. LEDs have become the most set-it-and-forget-it lighting option available today. And it’s not uncommon for an LED’s lifespan to stretch 17-20 years when running an average of eight hours a night.

Versatility

Long gone are the days when LEDs only came in one cold, white-bluish hue. Much like the sun’s rays, LED light bulbs emit full-spectrum lighting. Today’s improved LED bulbs have the same warm, pleasing hue as halogen.

Fewer Pests

You know those pesky summertime insects drawn to your patio and landscape lighting? There’s a good chance these insects are there because of the UV light coming from the halogen light bulbs. LEDs don’t emit this type of UV light, which is great news if you’re interested in reducing the presence of fluttering backyard bugs. And who isn’t interested in that?
